I wish beating another club by six goals was a regular occurrence.
Alas it’s not. But it’s worth celebrating.
I saw Wednesday clout Chelsea 6-1 at Hillsborough in 1966-67, when big John Ritchie, 6’2″ legend signed for £70,000 (a lorro money then) from Stoke City scored three, or was it ten.
This of course was Chelsea before the dirty gangster money bankrolled a Chelsea revival.
The ridiculous shirt he wears was part of the “modern” look that was adopted by Wednesday in those silly years. Thankfully the “fashion” didn’t last long.
John died in 2007. He has a bust outside the Britannia stadium as Stoke’s most prolific scorer.
Well done Wednesday for beating Macclesfield in a 3rd round replay tonight. Now for Rochdale. Soon it’ll be Bayern Munich in the Champion’s League
