St Francis Xavier once said “Give me a child when he’s 7 and I’ll give you the man”
My father in law, an Italian socialist, would repeat it as often as he passed water, and when I reflect on the stabbing and death of teacher Ann MaGuire in Leeds this week by a 15 year old pupil my first thought was of this saying.
I’ve observed many dysfunctional children in my life, both bullies and those with an attachment disorder, unable to socialise normally.
On this occasion the child murderer possibly went off the rails because of his obsession with the violent internet adventure games that are created for addicts like him.
Most people can distinguish between the fiction, though sick, and real life.
A few cannot.
For their sakes we should clamp down on the accessibility of these violent games.
To do so would lessen the number of badly behaved children, aggressive teenage crime, and save lives .
