John Bercow, Speaker of the mother of democracy. the UK House of Commons, said yesterday that Donald Trumpwould not be allowed to address the House of Commons in his forthcoming visit to the UK.
This, despite being invited here by our Prime Minister Theresa May at last month’s touchy feely encounter at the White House.
Per que?
Because, as the Speaker explained, Trump’s racist and sexist history precludes him from such an honour.
In principle, the excesses of politicians need to be restrained by a referee.
Trump’s judiciary are doing this right now.
Bless them for saying he can’t simply exclude immigrants against whom he feels a grudge. Family life is more complex than that.
Too often, in lesser nations, the judiciary bow down before the politicians.
It mustn’t here, ever.
